Dean Blackaby, JD, MSCC, is currently a Special Assistant Attorney General providing legal counsel to the Montana State Fund and has represented both insurers and plaintiffs for more than 15 years.  In his current capacity, he provides counsel regarding Medicare Set-Asides, conditional payments under the Medicare Secondary Payer Act and mandatory insurer reporting on a daily basis. 

 

Prior to joining the Montana State Fund in 2006, he owned and operated The Blackaby Law Firm, P.C. and The Montana Work Comp Law Center for more than ten years specializing in the representation of injured workers (1996-2006).  From 2003-2005, Mr. Blackaby edited and published The Survey, a monthly workers’ compensation magazine.  He also produced two advanced workers’ compensation conferences and has lectured frequently on the topic of workers’ compensation including presentations before the Montana Trial Lawyers Association and the California Applicants’ Attorneys Association.  He currently makes presentations through MSP Education/Compliance and focuses on compliance issues with the Medicare Secondary Payer Act.

 

Mr. Blackaby is a 1992 graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law.  He is a member of The Montana Bar, a Medicare Set-Aside Consultant-Certified (MSCC) and a member of the National Alliance of Medicare Set-Aside Professionals (NAMSAP).
